Disabled people in Scotland need to be given increased accessibility to work, one politician has claimed.
Leader of the Scottish National Party Alex Salmond noted in an article for the Banffshire Journal that it is important to highlight ways in which the government is looking to help disabled employees.
He remarked: 'Despite the significant advances made in terms of ensuring equal opportunities in recent years, just under half (48.1 per cent) of people in Scotland with a disability are in work.'
According to Mr Salmond, this compares with 75 per cent of the general population.
As such, the launch this week of the Supported Employment Framework in Scotland is particularly vital, he added, which should aid disabled individuals overcome complex barriers to landing vacancies.
Last month, Scottish mental health was in the spotlight after the nation's Observatory for Work and Health found that psychological problems were the most common reason for why people took time away from their jobs.
