Atos Healthcare, the current contract holder for the Employment and Support Allowance Work Capability Assessment, has been awarded two out of three regional contracts for carrying out Personal Independence Payment (PIP) medical assessments.

The DWP announced today that the PIP assessment competition has now been completed for Great Britain and the preferred bidders for each of the three Lots are -

Lot 1 (Scotland, NE England, NW England & Isle of Man) – Atos Healthcare;

Lot 2 (Wales, Central England) – Capita Business Services Ltd; and

Lot 3 (London, South England) - Atos Healthcare.

The recommended supplier for Lot 4 (Northern Ireland) is still to be confirmed and will be announced later.

PIP is due to begin replacing disability living allowance (DLA) for working age claimants from April next year, with all current working age DLA claimants having to be reassessed for the new benefit. The contracts for PIP medicals are worth up to a billion pounds in total and have attracted the attention of many multinational companies.

The announcement on the award of contracts to deliver PIP assessment services is available from the DWP website.
