Ruth was born in East Kilbride and attended St Vincent’s School for the Blind in Glasgow and Uddingston Grammar School. After school Ruth went on to train as a broadcast journalist.
She has worked extensively in radio and TV, both for the BBC and a number of international media networks across Asia and Pakistan where she worked for 3 years. Since returning to the UK, Ruth has worked across a wide range of voluntary sector organisations, including The Bridges Project, Openings, Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living and Glasgow Equalities Partnership. She is also a director of ‘Sensing Change’ (within Renfrewshire Council for Alcohol), and the vice chair of ‘The Shia Council for Scotland (a faith Network of Islamic organisations).
